Bounced Cheque

A cheque is said to bounce when the amount for which the cheque is written is more than the balance in the account. A bounced cheque is illegal and can incur a penalty fee from the bank. In the United Kingdom they are typically returned marked "Refer to Drawer" - an instruction to contact the person issuing the cheque for an explanation as to why the cheque was not honoured.
